Holly Molly! Oh my god! Look at this healthy, beautiful, gluten free, sugar free, passover friendly, can be veganized easily tart! This tart is really the only tart you will want to make from now and trust me! Its easier to make than you think it is! And more than that, its super fun to make and even more fun to eat!
Soooooo for the crust, we are using almond flour which will add lots of flavour and texture and healthiness to our tart. The almond flour can be changed into corn flour as well. You might need to add a little more or less water to the crust but it still works great! Other than that, for the crust, we are using any type of natural butter/margaine. If you do not have a natural one and you dont care, you can use a not healthy butter but! We have so many options and choices in this world so why to use them? I sometimes use vegan natural margarine or olive oil based margarine or even herbs butter. So you really have all these options.
For the apple sauce layer, I made my own apple sauce by cooking 3 medium peeled apples in a sauce pan with some boiling water until softened and then blended the apples (with out the water!) with 1/2 tsp of cinanom. Thats it! super easy and no need for any extra sugars. But! if you want to use store bought apple sauce, you definitely can!
Also, in this tart I am not adding any extra sugars! Just 2 tbsp of honey/maple syrup to the apples! That being said, if you like your tarts extra extra extra extra sweet, feel free to either add a sweeter apple sauce or sprinkle the tart with some sugar at the very end. That being said, its very very very not necessary!!!
Alright enough with the talking and lets get baking!!!!
WRITTEN RECIPE:
Ingredients:
Tart crust:
1/3 cup any natural butter / margarine
2 1/2 cups almond flour. (read more about it)
1/4-1/3 cup water
pinch salt
Apple filling:
about 7 medium apples
1/2 lemon juice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp honey
1 1/2 cups apple sauce (I used homemade apple sauce)
Instructions:
Start by making the apple filling: Chop all apples and place in a large heated proof bowl. Add lemon juice and microwave for 4 minutes. Add the cinnamon and the honey after microwaving, mix and cover with a lid/a plate and set aside.
Moving on into the crust: In a medium size sauce pan, melt the butter/margarine until turns gold and brown. Into the gold and brown melted butter/margarine, add the almond flour and give a little mix. Then add the water gradually and the salt. You should get a well combined soft dough. After everything combined, transfer the dough into the pan ( a 9inch tart pan). Spread the dough evenly across the bottom and the sides. (you can let the dough chill for a little bit at this point but its really not necessary).
Next, preheat an oven to 350 degrees F.
Spread the apple sauce on the crust evenly all through the bottom.
Starting from the edges of the tart's pan, working inward, place and arrange around with the apples in a circular pattern. Make sure the curves of the slices face up.
Bake in the preheated oven for about an hour or until the crust is gold and brown and apple get a slightly gold colour as well. Make sure you take a look at the tart here and there to avoid it from burning. You might want to cover the tart 30 mins through with foil paper to avoid from burning.
And enjoy!!!!!!!!!
