Healthy Whole Wheat Zaatar Pittas

I dont know about you but I love pittas and you know what I love more? Zaatar topped pittas. And today, I got all of us an amazing healthy zaatar pittas recipe that you are going to love! They are pretty easy to make and they're delicious!

Now, you know what's the best part of making your own pittas? Its that you can make it exactly how YOU like it! You choose how thick or how thin they will be. You choose how much topping you want to add. Maybe you like a lot of topping or maybe you like really little topping. You can also top them with some caramelized onions or mushrooms or anything else you want. Either way, you get to make the perfect pittas for YOU!

Doesn't that sound pretty perfect? Mhmmm!

Soooo just before we start, I have to mention that I made them kneading by hand and I cannot complain. You just gotta learn how to treat your dough. Even when you knead by hand, you still want your dough to be pretty "wet", soft and smooth. That being said, if you guys have a stand mixer and you wanna use it, GO FOR IT! Im just saying you can also get absolutely amazing results with your two beautiful hands:)

Also, lets talk where we let our dough to rise. Since this dough needs a very short time to rise, it cannot rise in a cold place such as the fridge because nothing will barely happen there. It needs to be somewhere warm so the dough will rise faster in just an hour! So there are plenty of places you can place your dough in but you know where my new favourite place is? The microwave. Not just in the microwave though. I first microwave a glass of water for 30 seconds and then I place the covered dough in the warm microwave with the warm glass of water and this way, the dough rises really fast with the heat of the microwave and the warm water in it! I learned this from a really good friend of mine and since then, this is the only way I let my fast rise doughs rise. But if you have any other better ways, you do your thing and feel free to share your ways with me!!!

Anyway, enough with the chatting and please, lets get pittaing!

Full recipe:

Ingredients:

💚4 cups whole wheat flour

💚1 pack of dry instant yeast (1 tbsp)

💚1 tbsp olive oil

💚1 tbsp honey/maple syrup

💚about 1 1/2 cups room temp water

💚1/2 tbsp salt

for the topping:

💚mix zaatar, olive oil, salt and balk pepper

(I can't tell you the exact measurements because it really depends how much you like on your pittas and how big/small you make them. So just mix these ingredients all until becomes a nice mixture that you can top with on your pittas)

Instructions:

⭐In a large bowl, sift the whole wheat flour. This step is super important and if you want to sift the flour a couple of times, that's even better! The more you sift, the softer and airier the result will be.

⭐Into the large bowl add the yeast, olive oil and sweetener and mix until fully mixed.

⭐Add the water gradually. Add about 1/2 cup at a time. You might need a little less or more water. In the end you want a nice and smooth & soft dough.

⭐Knead the dough for 7 mins either by hand or with your stand mixer then add the salt and knead for another 3 mins.

⭐Place dough in an oiled large bowl, cover and let rise for an hour in a warm place. (read where to rise your dough)

⭐After an hour, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

⭐Meanwhile, divide the dough into 16 balls. Roll each ball and poke with a fork a little bit to avoid from rising too much. Top with your zaatar topping or another topping you like and bake on a baking sheet for about 5mins in the preheated oven.

And enjoy them! Especially when they're fresh and warm from the oven!
